Sing Thy Grace (Songs of the Children #3)
LaKaysha Elizabeth

Genre: Young Adult/Christian Fiction/Historical Fiction/Inspirational Fiction

“A princess. A grand lady. A fair maiden…she had dreamed such majestic things in those days of long ago. Before reality cracked her childhood into small fragments so small her hands couldn’t grasp them as the winds of Time blew them away.”

Carrie Hayes is now the solemn, restless and clumsy young lady from Elk Valley. Oh, she has days of joy, but it seems all of her family is moving on – getting married, having children, going on adventures – and she’s left behind. As if she’s not worthy of life’s adventures.

Audrey has been far away, or deep inside herself, since the days of the war. It had been longer than that, truly, since the day Dick died. Will anything make her laugh and dream again?

Carrie and Audrey seek a respite from their troubled hearts on the beautiful Spread-by-the-Sea, which Nolan spoke so highly of. Joy and adventure meet them immediately – especially with the charming, confident Mike Wayne and the mysterious, poetic Rafeal.

Crazy Wayne seems content to find a place called “home” and settle there. As he befriends the sweet and spirited Carrie Hayes, life seems just right. Then, the unexpected happens – and the past comes back to haunt him. The pain and bitterness is enough to make Mike want to run forever.

Rafeal understands his calling; to protect the innocent, to go into danger and bring justice to evil men. Yet, something more tugs at his heart every time he speaks to tender-hearted and sorrowful Audrey. Could God have a life in store for them?

Sweet story romances blossom, faith becomes grounded in newfound truths, and songs burst anew.

When turmoil and tragedy strike again, will the friends keep their hearts fixed on God’s grace? And will God’s grace cover them all?

Sing Thy Grace – the third and final book of the Songs of the Children Trilogy by LaKaysha Elizabeth – is a stellar Christian historical fiction!

Twining speech quirks, books, and so many more elemental features of the historical era, LaKaysha creates a truly captivating world. It was wonderful to return to each place – from the rugged and homey Elk Valley to the sunshiny and welcoming Spread-by-the-Sea.

LaKaysha’s personal, heartfelt narration amidst the third person omniscient creates a beloved and unique voice. While her voice remains steadfast, the characters continue to grow and change in good ways.

It was delightful to return to these good friends of many years, albeit the last time (until I read the trilogy again). Glimpses of the past two books are intermingled in the telling, allowing us to sense the changes. One change in the characters is how they seek and find joy; the more they find God’s grace, the more they build up relationships founded on grace – and joy is the result. Sing Thy Grace has its hard times, but it is the happiest book in the trilogy!

The book slowly slips into following four main protagonists as they interact with one another and meet circumstances that require increasing measures of grace and faith. LaKaysha doesn’t leave anyone out of the mix, though; each character gets their moment to shine in this family-oriented novel.

Ultimately, the heart of the book is God-centered, as He is the only One who gives new beginnings and healing from the past. The prayers of Carrie, Audrey, and others are so real. Honest, raw, heartfelt – yet reverential. Whether in spoken word or song, they are touching and true-to-life. I appreciate the thought and truth put into each character’s spiritual life.

Each of the books in the Songs of the Children Trilogy have been increasingly joyful, yet turbulent at times. Again, this book will have you crying – both for sorrow and gladness! It’s worth the tears, though.

Bringing this trilogy to a close brings me to tears. It is filled with sorrows and joys, trials and triumphs, family and friends – also, some of the most blessed couples in the fictional world! Every moment is woven into a beautiful tapestry of poetry, song, and faith.

I am grateful for the enjoyment and impact I’ve received from this must-read and re-read trilogy!

I join the authoress in this Hallelu Yah! “For God in His abundant love for us, grants us strength in measure for every trial. He lovingly whispers echoes of mercy to our broken hearts when we have fallen short. He grants us peace on days when all seems lost, and in turn, He tunes our hearts to sing – sincerely, honestly, joyfully – of His wondrous grace. Strength, mercy, grace, peace. All are granted to us by His tender hands, conceived in His undeniable, indescribable, incomprehensible…love!”

Join the Elk Valley and Spread-by-the-Sea families once more for the turbulent, faith-testing, and triumphant conclusion of their heartfelt stories.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune our hearts to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise!

Hymn, “Come Thou Fount”
