Tomorrow’s Promise
Bethany Klassen
Christian Fiction/Western Fiction/Inspirational Fiction/Young Adult (16+)
A secret princess in a hidden castle, surrounded by white horses, waiting for her prince to come and take her to a quiet home surrounded by people. Such were Hazel McKinney’s imaginings of her lonely life with her hard-hearted father. When her uncle and young cousins arrive on the ranch, Hazel welcomes the company. Until it becomes clear that something is wrong.
Matthew Ellison left the role of sheriff three years ago, yet he can’t deny the calling God has placed on his life to protect. When a lawman requests help on a case, Matthew answers the call. Who could have known that the trail of a killer would trace back to his hometown of Albury?
As pastor of the small flock in Albury, Nathan Royce strives to ensure everyone is known, seen, and protected. When he stumbles into a lovely young lady whom he’s never met, Nathan is intrigued, but her father’s hard heart toward Christ concerns him most. Will his words be in time to rescue father and daughter from the looming perils?
Redemption, friendship, suspense, and a sweet touch of romance blend together in this exciting Christian western fiction!
This is Tomorrow’s Promise, by Bethany Klassen, sequel to Sins of the Past.
I’ve read it twice now and the re-read was even better than the first time. It’s swiftly engaging and somewhat suspenseful. In its truest core, this is a sequel that captures the feel of the old and combines it with a taste of the new in such a way that you want to keep turning pages!
The protagonists kept quirks and characteristics that were familiar from the previous story, yet along with it came a new layer of depth to their skills and desires. I especially enjoyed getting more of Matthew’s story! Although, seeing Nathan’s heart (especially for the unsaved) in this book was very inspiring.
Hazel was sweet, submissive, and smart. I liked that she safe-guarded her heart by not sharing her secrets and desires all at once, but waiting for the right time. I also found her genuine prayers really moved the story and kept Christ coming back to center in the script – love that!
Death, injuries, physical abuse, and drunken characters are interspersed through the pages. Things move really fast, but that also means they overlap. However, the authoress writes with tact and grace. I appreciated the sense of adventure and peril, while still soaking in relational aspects.
Themes of reconciliation, new beginnings, and holding tightly to faith in God amidst trials gently undergirds each movement. And the promise…
Hallelu Yah! Thank You, Jesus my Lord, for Your sweet assurances: “Behold, I am with your always, even to the end of the age!” “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” When tomorrow comes, “I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand.” Hallelu Yah!

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character;
and character, hope.
