Chuck Black
Genre: Biblical Allegory/Christian Fiction-Fantasy/ Children/Teen/Young Adult/Family Read-Aloud
Again, Cedric tells a story of the Prince – only this time, it is center around an enemy of the kingdom. What could the Prince want with him?
Gavin is at peace, sure that he is following the King and His Code. His life as a Noble Knight cannot be better: at the tender age of twenty, he is fourth in all the kingdom. An incident changes everything. Turmoil over an arrogant stranger turns Chessington upside down. Gavin’s heart is soon twisted into the tangle, as Kifus gives him power to destroy the Followers of the imposter.
A formidable foe in battle, Gavin is successful on all fronts…until the day he is grievously wounded in battle. He would have died that day, if the Prince had not spared his life.
But, what does the Prince want with the Tyrant of Chessington?
Another harrowing and wonderful installment in the Kingdom Series – it is Kingdom’s Call! Chuck Black continues the delightful, medieval allegory!
This book is detailed, spanning the time from Jesus’ crucifixion to Saul’s conversion. We miss very little of the passing time. Nonetheless, it retains a quick and captivating telling! The beginning is somewhat dismal – as it should be to portray one without Jesus in his life. Once you get to about the middle of the book, it just keeps getting better.
At first, you can almost cringe following Gavin about. However, persistent doubt as trials keep rising and a willingness to question his own beliefs creates an undercurrent of hope for his character arc.
I enjoyed the way Chuck Black portrayed Gavin’s time between when he met the Prince and when he understands and responds to the call. The inner and out turmoil of his regret and injury is true-to-life and touching.
Hallelu Yah to the Son! You purify us from all unrighteousness (1 Jn. 1:9), make us new creations (2 Cor. 5:17), forgive all of our sins (Ps. 103:2), and call us to live for You, who died to set us free (2 Cor. 5:15)! Hallelu Yah!
Pick up the book and hear the Kingdom’s Call!
But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is My chosen instrument to carry My name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel.”
Acts 9:15
