You’re looking for a Christ-centered fantasy novel with dragons, an exotic language, miracles, fantastical creatures, demons, a fight for the true light, and a little romance? I’ve got just the book.

After being mentored by a former Keeper, Edward is sure of his future calling. He longs to join the Keepers and escape the small town of Cadestone, where the beasts he would protect them from are mere myths.

Following a calling from the Creator of the universe, June passes through Cadestone. The result is perilous.

Pursued by the demon-possessed, June and Edward flee to areas where dragons and monsters are astonishingly real. Along the way, they meet several strange characters who will challenge what they believe to be true.

Will the light of the Deliverer penetrate the darkness advancing against them? What will come of June’s and Edward’s callings?

I’m starting by raising a Hallelu Yah! Praise be to God, the Creator, for He has sent the Messiah, Jesus Christ! The Branch of Jesse, Root of David, Shepherd of Israel, Suffering Servant, Son of Man, Son of God – He has come to deliver us out of darkness into the light of His glorious kingdom through His perfect blood. God has revealed Jesus in these last days that, by faith in Him, men will be saved from sin. Hallelu Yah!

Just after starting Creator’s Call, I told one of my sisters, “I like this book!” Pretty sure, I also did a happy dance.
My sister replied, “Oh, good. Why?”
“Because God is there, on nearly every page. There’s a conversation about Him or story of what He has done, or they are praying and listening to His counsel.”

Yet, not all believe in the Creator. Don’t mistake me. Disbelieving characters, demon-possessed characters, and down-right evil characters are still very much part of this story.

A couple of the male characters throughout the story struggle with attraction to an ungodly woman. I was so ready to see them throw away the influence!

There is, however, a clear contrast in Creator’s Call between the righteous light of the Deliverer and the evil darkness of His enemies. This is “the Christian faith weaved into a fantasy adventure” and Costas sticks straight to Scripture in his theology.

For instance, one of the characters was getting nervous about entering a city, and the mentor of the book told her not to fear because God works all things for good. She asked him if that meant nothing bad would ever happen to them. The mentor explained, it isn’t a promise that painful things will not happen to us, but that, in everything, God will use it for His glory and shape us more to be like Christ.

Creator’s Call is intriguing and creative. The story is rich in the history, culture, and growing faith of the fantastical world. We become immersed with the knowledge of details like clothing, relationships, travel, terrain, people groups, systems of justice, false religions, and animals.

The story switches between June’s and Edward’s perspectives. It’s fairly seamless and well-timed. Instead of the character’s thoughts being on the page, the author simply tells us what the hero was thinking. Sometimes, this sort of disconnects us from the intensity of the thoughts, but the ponderings and feelings are there all the same.

The Creator permeates this book! The Gospel, the instructions of Christ, the promises of God, and the pattern of a Christian’s life are all accurately taught!

It’s a 5-star read for me! I thoroughly enjoyed it, was greatly encouraged, and I am looking forward to book two! I joyfully recommend Creator’s Call to you.
