Things done alone rarely succeed and aren’t a fraction as much fun as they can be.
I live with my parents and seven siblings on a beautiful plot of land in Alabama {pictured above}. Despite all our responsibilities as a family, we find time to be involved in each other’s little dreams, like publishing an adventure novel.
In 2019, my family and I leapt on the crazy roller-coaster of editing and publishing the first book I penned, Chained. My mom read through the book and helped point out some errors. Then, she read through it again to make sure. Meanwhile, of course, Mom still wonderfully balanced all of her duties as wife and homeschooling mother.
My family helped me narrow down exactly what I wanted the cover to look like, and my older sister designed it. Some of my sisters took the time to go through fonts with me until we found ones we liked. Afterward, my older sister lent me her computer to spend hours editing and formatting the book. She even bought me a class so I could get the instruction I needed to finish the job.
A couple of months before the release of Chained, my siblings and I found a book trailer that inspired us. (Uh, not to buy the book, but to make our own book trailer. Okay, good. Just clarifying.) My brother has been my constant inspiration for writing, and he loves videography. So, he eagerly put together the trailer for Chained that introduces the story epically!
For the final stretch, my dad stepped up to the task. Dad listened to my desires and then created my website, exceeding my ideas. He finished off all the tiny details meanwhile balancing his day jobs and duties as a husband and daddy. After beating the KDP {Kindle Direct Publishing, of Amazon ®} system with my dad, Chained was ready for print.
A cheer shook our house when I opened the box full of books! Then, we inspected everything, everyone picked out their copy, and the family re-read the book they had worked so hard on.
Honestly, the hard work hasn’t stopped. My older sister has designed the next book cover, and my brother is working on the next trailer. My parents are helping with marketing, and my younger sisters are keeping me encouraged. Yup, everyone is still on that crazy roller-coaster of publishing and promoting an adventure novel.
